News 2014

April 14th

Just a quick update to keep everyone up with the latest news.  Here is the latest summary from our Chairman, Stuart Hayman.

You will note that we haven't made mucj progress after preparing design, costs and resource consent investigations for the proposed Ardmore Range.

Recently we had a Sport NZ subsidised report done by external consultants to summarise the position for the Minister. Most of this we knew, but it was useful to have this all in one place and to have the issues reviewed by an outside party.

In brief, here is the position and our proposed action going forward.

We cannot apply for Resource Consent without agreed access over the Council land on which the motorcycle club operates;

We cannot obtain access from:

  • the motorcycle club because their continued operation depends on an Environment Court decision (now 18 months since the hearing);
  • the Council because it is unclear which of at least two Council agencies took over the land from the Papakura District Council; and
  • the Council cannot make a decision on ownership or control of the land or access until the Environment Court decision.

So we have a deadlock.

Our way forward, therefore is:

  • Until the end of this year (8 months) or the Environment Court decision being published, whichever comes sooner, we will continue to seek funding from external funders and continue to liaise with Sport NZ;
  • If no favourable outcome results by then, we will look in depth at two other site proposals - we are aware of two smaller locations which could take a club based 10.25.50m range, one of which could conceivably take an international ISSF range complex.

News 2013

June 16th

Shooting in Auckland and the need for new ranges is very much alive.

Last Thursday, the NZ Shooting Academy organised a presentation evening to all interested Clubs and parties.

The focus was in two parts.

The first part was to bring everyone update to date with our vision of an International level Shooting complex to replace the original Ardmore complex. This vision will require funding from local and National governments. With the World Master Games being held in Auckland in 2017, it is an excellent opportunity to engage with both the National and Local Governments.

The second part was to present a low budget, minimal solution that could be funded by the Auckland Clubs and members. This would enable us to provide 2 - 3 ranges that would support both rifle and pistol shooters. Unfortunately, the space available doe not allow us to cater for our shotgun shooting colleagues.

We had a great turnout of very passionate shooters who were keen to ensure that our sport survives and thrives. The support included SportNZ, Auckland Council and NZ Shooting Federation plus a host of Clubs, Associations and individuals.

We are now actively raising funds to provide these budget ranges, as soon as possible.

If you or your Club can help in any way or would like a copy of the presentations, please email the address below.

News - November 2011

This is really very very late October news but what the heck.

Our President has provided an update,which has just been posted. Please check it out.

Some more images of the proposed Complex have also been posted.

We currently have the Engineers working on the earthworks plan and some sound testing scheduled this week. More anon.

Still small steps, hopefully it the right direction.

There is a rumour that Auckland would like to host a World Masters Games after Torino, Italy. The Syndey World Masters in 2009 was great so it would be fanastic if it came to Auckland.

News - May 2012

May 27th

Auckland Council have recently won the right to the 2017 World Masters Games.

As shooting is one of the key sports, this is providing us with new impetus to establish our proposed range complex at Ardmore. We are now in active dialogue with the Council.

We are currently seeking support from all Auckland shooters to support our bid with the Auckland Council.

To date, we are half way through the Resource Consent process and still require significant funds to complete the process.

Many thanks to the Pub Charities who have already been very supportive with there funding.

News - October 2011

October is looking like a month of action and progress culminating from all the work in the last couple of months.

After producing our Strategic and Business plans, we have recently completed a 3D conceptual model of the new Shooting Complex. Below is a snapshot of the proposed range.  Our forthcoming tasks in meetings with the Council to progress the Resource Consent and an erathworks engineer. More anon.
